Start of the new Staunton Blaster/Count Cooler Open Series -Grahame Newton wins the county cooler event. SHSC send

 

Tiger Trophy -Pete/Rich finish 33rd in the slow fleet GP sailing

 

Kamran finished 54/124 in the Topper National Series event in Weymouth

 

Staunton Blaster event with 25-40 knots of breeze, still braved by 26 boats. Results 1st Matt & Simon Foskett, 2nd Andy Foskett & Mark Stevens.

APRIL  

 

Our first Morning sailability taster-24 youngsters from Umbrella have their first 2017 sailing sessions. This becomes more formalised as the Staunton Harold Sailability Trust is formed

 

Miracle Midland Area Championships at SHSC-Graham Watts/Helen Jacks finish 2nd

 

SHSC GP Open Meeting-starting with mirror clam conditions but ultimately a respectable SSW breeze. Peter Gray and Rich Pepperdine take 1st place

 

Youth Nationals 2017 -Paul ML finished 20th overall in a 53 strong laser radial fleet with a spectacular bullet in Race 11. Paul qualified for the Laser Youth Europeans in Poland and the world in Medemblik.

 

Chloe competes at 420 Spring Championships, one of her first major events finishing 28/37. Chloe continued to enjoy the year in the 420

Sailability Day-150 guests come along for a sailing experience FOC-a highly rewarding event and great sensory experience.

 

RYA PTBO open day at SHSC--100 enthusiastic visitors to SHSC with many paying £5 for their taster sail. Many thanks to all the volunteers. Several families joined and signed up for future courses

 

Optimist Inlands at Grafham with a lovely 12-14 knots. Jacob achieved 3 top 40 results finishing 108th with Thomas finishing 131st out of 205 entries

Junior Honda Rib Challenge event held at SHSC. This followed focused training of SHSC juniors in their power boating skills. An enterprise that will be continued

 

Ten SHSC sailors including our 2000 fleet head to the 55th Lord Birkett event on Ullswater. 228 entries in a 2 day marathon. Daren/Colin 16th overall and first fireball, Tim and Wendy Gray 50th and second 2000.

Sam Penhaul Smith finishes 6th out of 368 boats sailing his first Fastnet event. Sam was bowman on the Fast 40 Ino owned and skippered by James Neville

 

Optimist Nationals -2 SHSC sailors compete this year. Jacob finished 23rd in the senior main fleet after some great racing including a 3rd place. Thomas finished 14th in the Junior Silver fleet with 3 top 10 finishes. Last nationals for Jacob who then committed to laser 4.7 sailing

4th overall at the SAP 505 worlds. They had been 2nd for the entire regatta and 6 boats could have won in the last race  Very cruel circumstances led to them being knocked off the podium on count back by Wolfgang Hunger, (who just happens to be most successful 505 sailor ever!) 
 7 optimist sailors compete in 400 strong fleet at WPSA Nationals Chloe's first seniors main fleet , experience with Jacob in juniors and Kamran, Tara, Sam, Amy and Peter Nugent in the regatta fleet

Once again Grahame Newton came in 1st overall after a great battle with Craig Williamson 2nd and his father Paul Williamson 3rd, with Richard Bennett 4th. Other SHSC boats in the prizes were:
