Learn to sail at Staunton Harold Sailing Club

At Staunton Harold Sailing Club, adult training courses are designed with the complete beginner in mind and make an ideal introduction to the world of dinghy sailing.

Lindsey and Badri Push the Boat Out

Learn a fun active outdoor skill

We teach Levels 1 & 2 of the RYA National Sailing Scheme in an interesting and enjoyable programme of theoretical and practical instruction. On completion of the course, the successful sailor will be safety conscious, have a basic knowledge of sailing and be capable of sailing without instruction in light winds.

The Detail:

"What will I be doing and what do I need to bring?"

You will be taught primarily in RS Visions – large double handed dinghies ideally suited for training. There may also be opportunity to try single handed sailing in a Laser I or Topper. Towards the end of every course we try to incorporate a ‘try a boat’ session during which you may be introduced to other classes of dinghy. We also offer adult improver training sessions to continue your progression.

Buoyancy aids, wetsuits and spray tops are provided. Sensible ‘old’ clothes, including closed-toe footwear, should be worn while sailing, bearing in mind the possibilities for getting wet. A change of clothing and a towel is essential!

Successful completion of the Level 1 or Level 2 certificate also allows club members to hire the club boats.

Adult Training Course Dates

Given the continuing covid-19 restrictions all Sailing Club training activities are on hold for the time being. However we are beginning to make plans for when lockdown eases.

Currently we have identified 4 potential weekends for our first 2021 Level 1/2 sailing course. Two weekends form a course.

Hopefully we will see some beginners on the water learning how to sail. However , there is a possibility that we will convert some of these courses into members more advanced training events.

There is a course membership fee payable by non-members which allows for sailing for a time after the course [A1 – End June 2021 | A2 End December 2021].

The format of our autumn A2 course is not confirmed as yet
