Learn to sail at Staunton Harold Sailing Club

Learn to sail at Staunton Harold Sailing Club

At Staunton Harold Sailing Club, adult training courses are designed with the complete beginner in mind and make an ideal introduction to the world of dinghy sailing.

Lindsey and Badri Push the Boat Out

Learn a fun active outdoor skill

We teach Levels 1 & 2 of the RYA National Sailing Scheme in an interesting and enjoyable programme of theoretical and practical instruction. On completion of the course, the successful sailor will be safety conscious, have a basic knowledge of sailing and be capable of sailing without instruction in light winds.

The Detail:

"What will I be doing and what do I need to bring?"

Our double handed sailing courses see students taught primarily in RS Visions – large double handed dinghies ideally suited for training. There may also be opportunity to try single handed sailing in a Laser Pico or Topper. Towards the end of every course we try to incorporate a ‘try a boat’ session during which you may be introduced to other classes of dinghy.

Our single handed sailing courses see students taught primarily in RS Picos – small single handed dinghies popular with beginners.

Buoyancy aids, wetsuits and spray tops are provided. Sensible ‘old’ clothes, including closed-toe footwear, should be worn while sailing, bearing in mind the possibilities for getting wet. A change of clothing and a towel is essential!

Successful completion of the Level 1 or Level 2 certificate also allows club members to hire the club boats. We have a high number of boats across a number of classes and are able to offer an ‘annual hire’ option at an attractive rate to members. Therefore there is no need to rush out and buy a boat to continue sailing post course.

We also offer adult improver training sessions to continue your progression plus opportunities with our fleet captains.

Adult Training Course Dates

Our plans for 2021 are well underway as we begin to move out of lockdown.

2 of our 4 adult courses are now full.

10/5/2021 – WE HAVE 1 SPACE ON OUR SINGLE HANDED COURSE (22ND / 23RD / 29TH / 30TH MAY) AVAILABLE. Please email Paul Munro if you are interested

We have spaces remaining on our double handed course running over 2 weekends (AD1) and we plan to run our ever popular modular double handed modular course on Saturday mornings from early September to late October (AD2). So there is still an opportunity to learn to sail with us this year.
