Sailing set to resume from end of March
Following the government’s announcement of the roadmap out of lock-down, and the latest guidance from the RYA, we are delighted to be able to confirm that we will be reopening the Club from the end of March.
Wednesday 31st March
The first event will be Wednesday 31st March: Series A Handicap with a start at 18:30. As the first weekend after opening is Easter, we are working out the best format and which days to open for cruising/racing. We will then follow the published calendar, although we will have to decide nearer the time whether we can run the early Open meetings or not. Once the sailing programme is firmed up we will provide an update.
Government restrictions/ RYA guidance
Given the government restrictions, the procedures for sailing at the Club will be the same as we ended 2020 with: Clubhouse only open for toilets and with a one-way system; no changing or showers in the clubhouse (except in an emergency); no bar; no galley. Social distancing will be required in the Club grounds and face-masks in the club buildings. People from different households can sail together, or man a safety-boat, provided they follow the RYA risk mitigation. Races will be managed from the race-box (no Committee boat) and an average wind-speed limit of 15 knots (or 20 knots for wind-surfers) will be applied. Please remember to sign-on electronically. We will provide you with a reminder of the procedures before we reopen.
The RYA guidance is that boat maintenance unfortunately does not count as recreation, so we would discourage members from visiting the club until the 29th March. We will continue to have a few small working parties addressing urgent issues and preparing for reopening.
We need to maintain these rules to keep all our members safe, to comply with legislation and follow the RYA guidelines. We will continue to monitor the guidance as we move further out of lock-down, and will remove these restrictions as soon as we can.
In spite of it not being back to normal, we are really looking forward to being able to welcome as many members back as soon as possible and for us all to get back out sailing!
Q&A/ Winter Wednesday Talk
