Delayed from April, the Craftinsure and Robline sponsored Midland Championships took place on 9/10th October.
Saturday brought the promise of a breeze, but sadly it died to nothing by the start time. After a postponement, Race Officers Becky Priest and Grahame Newton sensibly abandoned racing for the day and re-scheduled an extra race on Sunday.
Instead Day One saw sailors enjoy an excellent lunch at the club. Some of the sailors went on to explore the surrounding countryside and local Melbourne highlights. Others practiced for an upcoming marathon and the day was rounded off with fish and chips or an impromptu BBQ at the club.
Sunday dawned as per the forecast, bright sunshine with a much better breeze forecast! The competition then began in earnest. Sailors switched places throughout the day, but the results for each race strangely stayed consistent.
After four races Budworth S.C. sailors Hugh Devereux and Malcolm Bird took the top spot with three bullets. Welsh Harp S.C.’s Tomasz Szakola and Chris Lomax took second place with three second places. And Staunton sailors Darrell Sleep and Charles Saunders took third place For the full race results please click here.
A big thank you to both the on and off the water teams for a great, well run and thoroughly enjoyable event.
