Congratulations to all the Staunton sailors who took part in the Round the Island Race over the weekend. Staunton sailor Sam Penhaul Smith’s boat Strait Dealer finished 6th overall – what a fantastic result!
1205 boats entered, but only 673 finished thanks to the general lack of wind and a sea breeze that failed to materialise. The lack of wind saw hundreds of teams struggle to reach the Needles before the tidal gate slammed shut in the early part of the race. Those who sneaked through had little option other than to soldier on and endure a slow, challenging, and extremely hot rounding.
Well done to everyone on Strait Dealer for a great finish! And to everyone else who took part.
