Junior Champs – 30th June

Junior Champs

Perfect conditions

If you had ordered the weather online for the Junior Champs, we got exactly what you would have asked for! Junior Champs 2018/2Sunny, blue skies and a strong, largely stable wind. Let’s go sailing!

Intense competition

18 juniors from the club competed for the title of top SHSC junior in the three race event.  Competition was intense throughout the field.  Hardened zone squad and circuit sailors competed for the top spot but intense battles were also fought throughout the fleet as sailors battled to win their respective Junior Camp trophies. Race 1 saw a spectacular dismasting for Nathan Smith on the first beat that handed victory to last year’s winner, Thomas Kelsall, in his Optimist. Race 2 went to Nathan Smith, with Ellie Rush, who put in a fantastic display sailing her Topper, coming a close second. In the final race of the day, any of the above boats could have won. A capsize by Nathan at the tricky gybe mark looked to have handed victory to either Ellie or Thomas, but he dried himself off and sailed a fantastic race to take a first place with Thomas second and Kamran Ewbank in third. Ellie managed a fourth, winning an intense battle amongst the Topper fleet.
