Junior festival of sailing

Junior Festival of Sailing 8th July!

As part of the sailing club’s big weekend of sailing, racing and social events on 8th and 9th July Becky is organising a couple of activities for the ‘SHSC Festival of Junior Sailing’.

What and when the fun begins …

Starting at 11:30am we will run a ‘Le Mans start and finish’ where sailors run to their boats in the water to start (someone holds the boat while they are running). After that there will be a treasure hunt to a number of different marks around the reservoir.
For both activities you will be put in a team of 4 junior sailors. Each team will have one Topper and one Optibat (club boats). The aim is to have some fun with a bit of a competitive element but you will need to work as a team to complete the two activities.

The idea is that as many juniors as possible take part in the fun afternoon races as well – there are rumours that one of these may be a Le Mans start. Becky’s also going to run a ‘most gybes between 2 marks’ competition in between the races in the afternoon – open to all that can keep an honest count! There is a fancy dress competition too!

What to do next

We ask all of our junior/ youth sailors and their helpers both on and off the water to contact Becky asap to confirm their participation! Please check your club emails for full details.

Let the games begin!
