Junior/ Youth sailing

2022 has seen our Junior/ Youth numbers grow. We’ve had fun Friday nights and seen more junior/ youth sailors move into racing both at the club in every series, join a dedicated series, travel away from the club and be invited to join the RYA Midland’s Squad.

Laurie Lamb awarded Endeavour Trophy at GJW ITCA event at Leigh & Lowton S.C.Staunton youth sailor Laurie was invited to join the RYA Midlands Topper Squad just a couple of month’s ago. Taking part in his first national series – GJW Direct ITCA – racing at Leigh & Lowton S.C. Laurie was one of 51 other Topper sailors in October, and was delighted to come away with a 44th overall.  At the end of the racing in recognition of his effort and determination Laurie was awarded the up the Endeavour Trophy – well done!

Meanwhile, sailing at home, our juniors welcomed other Derbyshire sailors to our DYS (Derbyshire Youth Sailing) Open Event in October. The DYS Event was ideally timed, with Staunton Juniors/ Youth sailors coming off the back of a Junior/ Youth Summer Series – which was won by Oliver, with Joe and Laurie coming second and third respectively – 9 sailors took part as individuals and a further two took part as crews in parent helmed boats. Thank you also to our juniors who’ve been stepping inOliver Baron winner of SHSC 2022 Summer Series and crewing for some of our adult sailors in our Sunday series, Saturday Series, at Open Events and supporting our Sailability team.
