27 Lasers at SHSC Club Champs
Sunday’s Laser Club Championship was a sight to behold. Whilst this
was a club only event, we still saw more Lasers out on the water than many Open meetings elsewhere – 27 Lasers – wow! So definitely plenty of competition throughout the fleet.
Grahame Newton with two bullets sailed the competition off the water. With 14 Laser Open wins in the last five decades, his Laser skills are hard to beat! Grahame assures me that his first win in 1988 was when he was just 7 😉 for the record his wins include – 1988, 89, 90, 94, 96, 97, 98, 99, 2001, 02, 12, 13, 17 and now 2020!
An unfamiliar face in a Laser was Rachael Rhodes showing her winning versatility in any fleet as she took fourth place and first lady. Sam Jones was third with two seconds and Nathan Smith took second place on count back with a first and a fourth. To check out the full results click here.
Race team – thanks
A big thank you goes to our race team for the day – Tim Gray ably assisted by Wendy and the on the water safety crew. A really super course, with a different start keeping the championship racing away from the Sunday handicap racing.
27 boats – yes 27!
Well done to everyone who took part sailing, officiating, on the water safety and supporting, what was a thoroughly enjoyable day on the water.
