extensive racing calendar

With 100s of races scheduled through the year there is something for everyone. Whether you are a novice or National champion we guarantee a top quality fun experience

Efficient Race Management

We use state-of-the-art equipment to run efficient, member-run racing using well maintained committee boat, signalling systems,  computerised timing and results and modern safety boats. We run handicap, pursuit and fleet racing around varied courses on our beautiful reservoir.

How does it work?

Open to all sailing members, club racing is fun, exciting and sociable. We run many series throughout the year on Wednesday evenings, Saturday afternoons and all day on Sundays. We use a handicap system so whatever class of boat you sail you can be competitive. We run races for novices where we offer free coaching all the way to highly competitive Open Meetings and National events for certain classes.

All the information about a particular race can be found in the Event Calendar online. This tells you the start time, what type of racing and number of races plus any event-specific information. The Event page also has a link to Sign-On and we ask all members to sign on before coming to the Club. It’s easy to do from a laptop or smartphone by clicking the link above. On Wednesday evenings the bar will be open and we often have a fish & chip van for a great post-race supper. The galley and bar are open on Sunday, so bring the family and occasionally on Saturday afternoons.
Remember we are a member-run club and all sailing members need to do at least 3 duties which can be on the committee boat, safety or helping in the galley.

Handicap Racing

Our most popular race type, each class has their average lap time calculated using a nationally recognised handicap and the winner may not be the first boat to cross the line

Pursuit Racing

Each class starts at a specific number of minutes after the slowest boat so the faster boats try to catch and overtake the slower ones. If we all sail efficiently we should all finish together!

Fleet Racing

This is where all the same class of boat race together and mainly happens at your classes Open Meeting, although fleet racing happens within handicap and pursuit racing too.
