60 sample sailing at Push the Boat Out!
A very big thank you to everyone who joined us on Sunday 6th May for our Push the Boat Out event. The day was a sail away success with 60 people, aged from 2 to 89 joining us on the day to sample sailing. Temperatures in the mid 20’s, accompanied by a gentle breeze provided the perfect conditions to Push the Boat Out.
On the day
The day proved a huge draw, for would-be sailors of all ages and abilities. As, Push the Boat Out visitors took to the water in half hour slots with expert helms from 11:00 a.m. – 15:00. Seasoned sailor Richard joined us on the day to celebrate his 89th birthday with daughter Susan and son-in-law Harry. Richard took to the helm and was soon reliving his days at Staunton where he used to race a Mirror dinghy. We hope you enjoyed your birthday experience Richard!
Locals, Lindsey and Badri also had a great time on the water. Our expert helm Russ passed the tiller to Lindsey and she put the boat through it’s paces, with Badri as her able crew.
Whilst many of our visitors took the opportunity to get out on the water, others simply relaxed and enjoyed the club. There was dinghy racing to watch and members were on hand to answer questions. The galley also proved very popular as people tucked into light snacks, refreshing drinks, cakes and ice-creams! All in all the the day was a sail away success.
