Staunton Harold SC to host Derbyshire Youth Sailing Open – 15th May

Staunton Harold Sailing Club looks forward to welcoming youth sailors from all over Derbyshire on 15th May.

Time/ Format/ Briefing/

The 15th May will feature three races, each with one DYS handicap start. Due to Covid restrictions the race briefing will be online. Please check it out before you arrive at the cub, it includes race start sequences, a map of marks on the water, special sailing instructions and a host of handy tips to make your day as enjoyable as possible..

On the day, the first race will start on, or shortly after, 11:00 a.m.. Subject to conditions we plan to run two back-to-back races before lunch and then there will be a third race on, or shortly after 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon.

Whilst at the club please remember hands, face, space. Hands – there is hand sanitiser at the club, but you may like to bring your own (note that there are gates to open before you get to the club). Face, masks please wear face masks inside as per Covid regulations unless individual exemptions apply. Space, on arrival please move boats into the boat park. Note that there is extra space and launching to the west end of the boat park.
When rigging and launching please be mindful of your fellow sailors and allow space between boats and sailors as per Covid rules.


Note all sailors are required to register and sign on digitally in advance, both via the SHSC website and also on the DYS website.  All non sailing visitors are also required to sign on in advance please click on the Spectators and Supporters SIGN-IN HERE section towards the bottom of the digital online entry. Entry Fees per boat are £10 for single handed boats and £15 for double handed boats, payable on registration via the DYS website.

On arrival at the club, NHS track and trace posters are sited at the entrance to the Staunton Harold Sailing Club, club house.

Derbyshire Youth Sailing

Derbyshire Youth Sailing is the official body for awarding county colours for sailing. DYS has a set policy on how points are awarded from events which are open to all sailors meeting one of the following conditions:

Member of a Derbyshire Sailing Club
Live in Derbyshire
Attend a school in Derbyshire

The Staunton Harold Sailing Club Open is one in a series of Open events set around Derbyshire where sailors can gain points towards county colours. Please visit the DYS website for a full list of upcoming events for 2021. In addition to Open events sailors may want to try their hand at team racing, the NSSA 12 hour race or match racing – details of which are also available on the DYS website.

Avoid disappointment

Due to Covid, sailing numbers will be limited to 40 boats on the water – to avoid disappointment please book asap. If our numbers are exceeded you will be added to a waiting list and should any sailors drop out you will be invited to join the event.

Galley/ Facilities

Please also be aware that due to Covid restrictions no changing facilities or showers are available at the club. We are hoping to run a galley servce with filled rolls/ drinks/ crisps/ fruit on the day, please pre-order on arrival.
