13th May – Staunton and Melbourne club trophy event!
Well done to everyone who took part in the Staunton and Melbourne Cup last Sunday. 38 boats, and more than 50 sailors took part. Whilst the day was filled with lots of sunshine there wasn’t a huge amount of wind.
Opportunity for all abilities
The day provides a great opportunity for sailors of all abilities to take part, for novices there’s the chance to win the Melbourne Cup. Whilst, for seasoned racers, the Staunton Cup is up for grabs. The event comprised a full day of racing with three races over the day – one in the morning and two in the afternoon.
Congratulations

The winners on the day for both the Staunton and Melbourne Cup were youth sailors! Thomas (Optimist), who is no stranger to winning, took first place over other seasoned sailors in the Staunton Cup. He was closely followed by Nigel and Di (RS200) in second place and Simon Foskett (Supernova) in third. Thomas’ s mum, Dee and sister, Katie (Mirror) came fourth. Racing was close, with just two points between between 1st and 4th!

Meanwhile, in the Melbourne Cup, youth sailor Ellie (Topper) took first place. Kris (Comet) came second and Tom (Laser) third. Russ and Lucy (RS200) finished fourth.
Next major club trophies
Our next major club trophies will be the SHSC Anniversary Cup on 10th June, the Club Regatta and Junior Championships on the 30th June and the Club Championships on 1st July.
Thank you
Thanks go to our race and galley teams on the day, who made the Staunton and Melbourne Cup a thoroughly enjoyable event.
