GP14 Midland Championship at Chase April 2018

Staunton sailors 2nd at GP14 Midland Area Champs!

Great results for Staunton sailors

Staunton sailors pulled in some great results in last weekend’s GP14 Midland Area Championships at Chase Sailing Club. Congratulations to Peter Gray and Richard Pepperdine who finished the weekend second overall.  They were also the only boat, to beat overall winners, Ian Dobson and Andy Tunnicliffe, who almost swept the board with first placed finishes in all but Race 3. Also congratulations to Staunton sailors, John Blundell and Sam Jones, who finished 20th overall. Their best results were ninth place finishes in both Race 5 and Race 6.

Peter and Richard also took home the Richard Estaugh Trophy, thanks to winning Race 3. Burwain SC’s  Ian/Andy came second in this race and Sheffield Viking SC/East Antrim SC’s, Tom Gillard and Andy Thompson came third. The pair also finished third overall.

Strong competition

The event saw some of the best GP14 sailors in the world, including current GP14 World Champions and GP14 National Champions – plus of course Staunton’s very own reigning Midland Champions – Peter and Richard. Add to this a fleet of 38 boats from across the country and highly competitive racing was guaranteed.
