Last Wednesday’s session
The SHSC Winter Wednesday Talk Series kicked off last week on the theme of the 2021 season. This was the first of a series of talks aimed at keeping us all in touch with each other until we can get back on the water again.
Paul Williamson (deputising for Howard Jones who is helping to roll-out the Covid vaccine) gave an update on the hard work going on behind the scenes to produce a full programme for the 2021 season. The plan is to launch the season with bang with the Staunton Blaster, this will either be an open event or planned as a major start the season championship for all club sailors to enjoy. Paul also touched on the socials, planning to open with a Quiz and the Summer Social on the 19th June with a band “Moose Knuckles” already booked.
Nick Waters gave us an update on how we are impacted by Covid and how we are limited by both the legal position and government guidance. But essentially we are following the guidance issued by the RYA who Nick is in regular contact with.
Sam Jones gave us an introduction to the sailing programme. A full sailing programme has been planned on the assumption that the club will be fully open and we will modify this as the season progresses.
Highlights include the Staunton Blaster and the Streaker Nationals.
We also have a team of volunteers who are keeping an eye on the club on a regular basis, checking out the infrastructure and the dinghy park.
Coming up this Wednesday
This week’s talk includes three great topics:- Training (Paul Munro), Sailability (Mark Harden) and Rules (Becky Priest). Details on how to log in will be released before Wednesday p.m. and hopefully as many of you as possible will join us.
Enjoy your Monday!
