Junior Sailing
At SHSC we offer a wide range of Youth and Junior Sailing opportunities
Healthy fun sport for kids
We are proud to have a very active able junior and youth fleet, I am sure you will have seen them in action. As well as racing and cruising options we also have opportunities for Juniors to continue their learning at our skills sessions and our mini race series
What junior boats do we sail?
Optimist, Topper, Laser, Tera, RS Feva and Mirror
See the Fleets page for more information
Boat Hire
We have Optibats, Toppers, RS Fevas and Teras that club members can hire until you are able to buy a boat.
Click Boat Hire to hire by the day/session or we now offer an annual unlimited boat hire option
Hire boats include the use of a buoyancy aid but you would be expected to have your own sailing clothing e.g. Wet suit, Spray top etc
Opportunities
We hope to arrange events throughout 2024 aimed at improving sailing skills, We now have a junior subcommittee looking at developing junior activities and training. Please offer your ideas and support
We are aware that our sailors and parents will need refreshers on rigging and launching and will start with a session in April so please come along.
Don't miss our celebration of the Festival of Sailing on June 29th..details to follow
Junior/Youth Racing
We also have our own Junior racing series. We race with support and again compete for trophies and awards presented later in the year.
Why not start with the junior mini series.
Junior and Youth sailors are welcome to compete in any of the racing series at the club once they are competent sailors and there are trophies or prizes for best placed under 16 in most event series.
Please see our closed SHSC junior members facebook page youth@shsc.org.uk
Cruising
Cruising is welcomed at any time when safety is provided with 'cruising only' sessions on
Friday evenings (see the calendar for more details). First Friday is April 19th. Our Friday Night sessions provides an ideal opportunity for juniors to sail and socialise and have fun on the water.
Where possible there will be guidance on hand re rigging and launching with onboard activities where suitable. Parents/guardians are responsible for their children and we hope will assist with supporting all aspects of these sessions. It would be great to see sailing family members on the water sailing and paddleboarding.
For 2024 we have asked once again asked that all cadet members are either part of a family membership or that a responsible linked adult joins as a supporter member. This enables families to help across all aspects of club activities.
