Successful member-run club
Every sailing member 16 or over is required to do 3 equivalent duties per year as a minimum. Sat and Sunday duties count as 1 whilst evening duties count a 1/2. If you feel unable to do a duty please contact the secretary. SUP only members are required to do 1 equivalent duty. Non-sailing members often volunteer duties and some sailing members offer extra help on top of their 3 duties which we are very grateful for. Those regular racing members may be asked to do a 4th duty if necessary and your support is appreciated.
"Which type of duty should I sign up for?"
We need help with Race Management, Safety boat duties and shore-based Galley duties.
Click on the links at the top of this page for more detailed duty guidance but in brief:
- If you are an experienced racing member, please volunteer for a race officer (OOD) duty.
- If you have less race experience but are interested in race management the assistant (AOD) race officer duty is a great way to learn.
- If you have a powerboat qualification e.g. PB2 or Safety boat then sign up as a safety driver.
- If less experienced but think you can help with safety then sign up as a safety crew.
- Alternatively if you are happy making filled rolls and serving hungry sailors between races sign up for a galley duty.
Security
Whether you are the OOD (race officer), Safety Team, AOD or in helping in the Galley it's good to know about Club Security.
