A fantastic result for Sam Mettam and Stauntons Tim Saunders, who are more often seen racing a Fireball. After buying a Wayfarer for cruising, Sam spotted the National Championship at Grafham and the pair jumped at the chance to enjoy a full weekend of racing.

What followed was an excellent weekend. The Championship attracted 26 boats from 20 clubs, with eight races sailed over three days. Highlights for Sam and Tim included a race win and two third-place finishes, helping them secure an impressive fourth overall—missing out on the podium by just one point.

Although they just missed a top-three finish, they did not leave empty-handed. Winning the practice race not only gave them an early boost, but also saw them awarded a highly sought-after bucket!
