Staunton Sailor Laurie Battles Breakages and Breeze at his Feva National Finale (24th - 27th May)

Published 01:00 on 30 May 2025

Sailing with Ben from Draycote Water, Laurie joined over 90 boats at the RS Feva National Championships hosted by Dalgety Bay Sailing Club Ltd Qualifying for the gold fleet in an impressive 15th place, this event marked Lauries final outing in a Feva before moving up to 29ers.

Dalgety Bay offered a stunning backdrop and some seriously bonkers tides! The conditions were amazing, the competition fierce but friendly — though Sunday racing was called off due to wild 40-knot gusts.

Despite a string of gear failures — including two spinnakers, blocks, shroud pins, halyard, and a tiller extension — Laurie and Ben powered through to finish 25th out of 42 in gold fleet. Notably, they completed the final three races without a spinnaker!

A gutsy performance and a brilliant way to sign off from the Feva fleet. Well done, team!
